Security is always a concern when talking about online confidential data transaction such as online payment or online registration with Credit Card information involved or even if confidential data that your employee is dealing if you allow them to access the system online.
If your website do deals with such activities, how secure is the communication from user browser to the server or vice versa?
If you are often doing online transaction via internet banking, you should be came across the address used starts with “https” instead of “http”. What does “https” or “http” means?
By using layman term, the differences will be related to the word “s” which means secure. This will leads that all the data which you have entered in the online form that is using https as url will have all the data encrypted when submited to the server when you click on the submission button.
How you can get this security settings? It is not just by a simple steps such as just provide your client https://yourdomainname instead of http://yourdomainname. This will not work. In order to enable https for your website, you will need two important thing:
1. Dedicated IP address for your website.
2. SSL certificate.
Dedicated IP address means that your website is having an ip address binded which the ip address is just for your website usage and it is not shared with other domain name.
SSL certicate is the digital security certificate which will be integrated with your website through your web server settings (if you are hosting your website with the web hosting company, this will be their job to either manually do it or via control panel depending on how they manage their server).
Some web hosting providers not only offers web hosting solutions, but they do offer SSL certificates which you can purchase from them directly. It will be best if you are able to host your website with the web hosting company which do provides SSL certification. This is because they will be familiar with the settings on the SSL that they provided and the SSL certification is having a high compatibility over the webserver that they are using to host your website.
One of the well known web hosting provider that you can have a look is Exabytes Network. They do provide both web hosting solutions and SSL certification.
